@thecaitlinnelizabeth: my teen daughter just went on this same ride a few months ago and had a weird experience. does anyone else get worried when super skinny/small people ride roller coasters?😬 #sixflagsovergeorgia #atlanta #sixflags
My son and husband were there the night before the incident and road Goliath 3 times. My son said the last time made him more nervous because the restraint was clicking as far as it had before. I doubt we’ll be back.

I grew up about 45 mins from that six flags and have ridden the Goliath tons of times. Her friend not being able to close it isn’t super weird if she’s small like you’re describing your daughter; it’s harder to pull down than it looks so you have to use a little bit more strength than you expect to do so. It also locks tighter than you think it should, so usually when the workers would come around to check them they would push it an extra click or two on me than what I thought I needed when I closed it myself. The ride is a high air-time ride so feeling like you’re out of the seat is part of the design, but the clamshell restraints are some of the safest ones out there. It’s unfortunate what happened to the guy, and I hope the investigation will tell us what happened so people won’t be as scared as they are right now and the appropriate safety measures can be taken. But what you’re describing is what a ton of other people “coming out” about the ride is describing too—bc most of them are intentionally part of the ride.

It's me :
She experienced 'air time'. It is an intentional part of the ride to make it thrilling.

A lot of the focus on size and safety gets put on people that are larger than average, but I'm sure being smaller than average also carries risks since seats have to be geared towards average bodies in order for the largest amount of people to ride. I've been in the smaller than average category most of my life, and I've generally been thrashed around on a lot of rides because of it and it is something that has made them scarier and less enjoyable for me. It is also something that has left me in pain after riding some coasters. I'm just now learning about air time as a result of this incident, and I do think that coasters increasing air time for thrills could also pose risks to smaller riders in terms of injuries from hitting parts of the seat hard more than falling out and definitely make the rides scarier for us that experience that as a sensation of nearly falling out rather than a thrill.

Yes! This is why I hate rides, any rides! Bc I’m very petite and little, my seat has so much room, the bar or whatever doesn’t help bc I can easily slide down or fly off especially weighing so little. I’m 38, prob rode 6 rides throughout my whole life til now

The ultimate sad part is no amount of money will heal the wounds of the family nor to the ones that witnessed and saw him before and after

You are justified. When I was 10 I almost flew out from a lap bar restraint. My sister held me down. I was tell enough but way too thin for that bar to secure me. (This was decades ago )

I’m 20 now and I went on that exact rollercoaster around 15 and I remember being surprised of the lack of security of the lap belt😳

FYI. The over the shoulder restraint is the same, if not more dangerous, than the lap bar restraints. The lap bar one should definitely have a seatbelt especially for rides that go 70mph and have a 200 foot drop.

I rode that ride back in 2023 during the October Fright Fest…I remember when we got close to our turn and saying “Oh hell no….just a lap bar”?!?

I rode it once over 10 years ago and I didn’t even want to go on it but my friends said it will be fun don’t be scared. I ended up sitting in the front row and I felt going up once the ride started. I said I would never get back on that ride again and I indeed never got back on it again. When I heard about the accident that was the first ride that came to my mind.

the clamshell restraints are the safest type of restraints. it’s wild how people speak on things w/o knowing what they are talking about
