@thehistorynow: When a teacher’s students become her greatest legacy. 🎻❤️ In February 2014, famous South Korean violin teacher Nam Yun Kim retired after more than 40 years of teaching at the Korea National University of Arts. During her retirement concert in Seoul, she thought the evening was already over. Then her former students surprised her. They performed My Way, led by pianist Daejin Kim and joined by a student orchestra. As the music filled the hall, Nam Yun Kim became overwhelmed with emotion. Generations of musicians she had taught had come together to thank her for everything she had done for them. Known as the “Godmother of Korean Violin,” she helped guide the careers of many talented South Korean violinists, including Clara-Jumi Kang, Shin Zia, and Lim Ji-young. It was more than a retirement performance. It was a thank-you from the students whose lives she had changed through years of teaching, guidance, and love for music. 🎻🥹
