My feeling is that most theists can't handle not knowing the answers to the big questions so they believe the fairy story. It give them a framework to navigate life. The athiest don't need to fairy story to navigate life so the theists think the atheists don't care about the big questions. I think that the reality is that they do care but it is not as all consuming so it seems like they don't care.
You have a similar thing with people who are infatuated with someone and people who are in a healthy long term relationship. The infatuated people say that the loving couple who are able to spend time apart aren't really in love.
The people who can't handle uncertainty also need to judge people. This it why theists are so judgemental of people being different. They can't endure the uncertainty that is necessary for true investigation and so just strait to judgement.

Yeah I was gonna say - smart people are actually looking into this stuff and for me to think I know better than them is naive at best 😂 (echoing your sentiment!)

I dont think any religion is true, one of them could be, but very doubtful. Imagine if Christianity is true, Jesus could have "come back" 5 times for all we know but he'd be put on a mental asylum when he started telling people... I always kinda wonder 🤔

"where did the universe come from" is already a loaded question, it presumes that the universe came from somewhere or something. Which is another thing I don't know, but that fits the theist as "god did it" becomes an easy answer

The answer isn't usually idk, it's 'I'm not sure.' I have an idea, but idk if it's true. Nobody can know right now. I like hearing about other people's ideas too

I am not a physicist or a cosmologist. I might be interested in where the universe came from, but I’m not equipped to figure it out.

“Where did the universe come from?” is a poor question anyway. “I’ve no reason to think it ‘came from’ anything”, is probably the only reasonable answer. His would presumably be “from god”, but I’ve a lot more certainty in my answer than he could possibly have in his!

Sorry to disappoint you but this is the default stuff from theists - where does the universe come from? Things don’t come from nothing - life doesn’t come from non life so evolution isn’t real - why do athiests celebrate Christmas etc etc it’s exhausting!!!

When the answer is always “Nuh uh, god did it. You’re wrong” there is very little productive conversation that follows. That gets old fairly quickly

Mada is being deliberately obtuse, and a little deceptive. "I don't know" is a valid answer to a question outside of your specialisation.
I don't know how to make a soufflé but I still believe they exist and there are experts who know how to make a damn good one.
