Here is a biography of Napoleon Bonaparte in English.Early Life and Education Napoleon Bonaparte was born on August 15, 1769, in Ajaccio, on the Mediterranean island of Corsica. His father, Carlo Buonaparte, was a lawyer, and his mother, Letizia Ramolino, came from a family of the island's minor nobility. Napoleon was the second of eight surviving children. Corsica had recently come under French control, and young Napoleon, like many on the island, was intensely proud of his Italian heritage and resentful of French rule. He began studying French only around the age of ten, and his first language was the Corsican dialect. After attending school in mainland France, Napoleon excelled at military studies. In 1784, he graduated from the Paris Military School and was commissioned as a second lieutenant in an artillery regiment.Military Career and the French Revolution Napoleon embraced the ideals of the French Revolution and became affiliated with the Jacobins. However, his relationship with the nationalist leader Pasquale Paoli, who was then the main advocate of Corsican independence, became increasingly strained. In 1793, following a clash with Paoli, the Bonaparte family fled to mainland France. Napoleon's military career took off after he distinguished himself during the siege of Toulon in 1793, for which he was promoted to brigadier general at the age of 24. In 1795, he suppressed a royalist insurrection in Paris, which further enhanced his reputation. 1796, Napoleon was appointed commander of the Army of Italy. His brilliant campaign there established him as a military genius.
