What am I missing? My Daily Sleep Routine: - Cut caffeine at noon * Caffeine has a half-life of roughly 4–6 hours, meaning it can still interfere with sleep well into the evening. - Exercise early in the day * Physical activity supports deeper sleep and healthy sleep pressure. Earlier workouts also give my body temperature and heart rate time to settle before bed. - Dinner around 6 PM * Gives my body 2–3 hours to digest before bed, reducing the likelihood of reflux and discomfort. - Dim the lights at sunset * Reducing bright light exposure helps support natural melatonin production and signals that it’s time to wind down. - Blue-light blockers + no TV in bed * Reduces evening light exposure and mental stimulation. Keeps my bedroom associated with sleep rather than entertainment. - Bedroom red lights at 8 PM * Switch to dim red lighting to minimize circadian disruption compared with bright white or blue-rich light. - Evening supplements: Magnesium glycinate, L-theanine, and lithium orotate * Magnesium supports normal nervous system function; L-theanine may promote relaxation. Evidence for sleep benefits is limited, and lithium orotate lacks established safety and efficacy for sleep, so I wouldn’t recommend it as a general sleep aid. - Warm shower before bed * A warm shower roughly 1–2 hours before bedtime can encourage subsequent cooling of the body, helping facilitate sleep onset. - Consistent sleep and wake window * Going to bed and waking up at similar times daily reinforces my circadian rhythm, making it easier to fall asleep and wake naturally. My philosophy: Don’t rely on a bedtime routine to fix an overstimulating day. Build habits throughout the day that prepare your body for quality sleep.
