@popculturescientist: What would really happen if we thought science was broken? This series will explore all the major science topics in the first season of 3 Body Problem on Netflix #3bodyproblem #stem #scifi #popculture #physics
giant tanks of water are equal parts fascinating and terrifying

my problem with three body problem is the scientists x themselves or giving up on their research.. like this would been one of the most exciting moments of scientific research

I think if we stopped progressing , and settled with what we already have, we would stop learning and changing for the better. we'd stop listening to each other and answering each others questions. while the rich played God and any Goddess that once was, would be shoved down lower than she has been, and pushed back even farther into the past.

I mean technically the trisolarans could affect any technology on the planet with the sofons that they deployed. If we stopped trying to discover they could just start interfering with any other software of hardware.

technically if they built three accelerators on mars and continue to run one earth the Sophons wouldn't have been fast enough to interfere with them all.

wait was that the premise? i thought it was that an alien race was preventing us from advancing science (through new break throughs) far enough to stop said alien race from taking over our planet and unaliving us when they eventually come. and that the alien race knows our current capabilities are too primitive to stop them. they did this by interfering with experiments such that we couldn't make more break throughs

I did always find the scientific community's reaction to be strange in that series. Avoiding later spoilers for what was really going on, but I initially found it silly and questioned why it wouldn't be more of an opposite response overall. It wouldn't encourage scientists or students to abandon scientific endeavours, if anything it would make plenty of scientists sit up, put on more coffee (crash out a bit in their group chat with their colleagues for a bit) and then sleep soundly betting their career and funding is secured for decades just trying to unravel what's causing the random results. It wouldn't be the scientists abandoning science is what I'm saying. Public and politicians are a different matter. The anti-science bots would latch on to those headlines for sure.

So much of science is also transformation. In the sense that an invention or an improvement towards something might not be financially or practically viable in said domain but once applied in a different domain, suddenly it can be groundbreaking or at the very least have a massive impact on it.

What’s 2 + 2? Scientists “4”, Mathematician “4”, Accountant “what do you want it to be?” 😜

it really sounds like you're talking about the implement of war being used to wage war against science and it's reliability and trustability that's come in the form of an entertainment TV show.
plant the idea in the public and then get more traction

I'm sure we will eventually find something earth shattering. Like conventional current flow or actual electron flow, we still use the old positive to negative models as it is convenient and still works but isn't what is happening.
