@historiae_imperiorum: Because identity has always mattered more than anything else, since the dawn of time. Even, and especially, when your ambition is to conquer the world. Since his youth, Alexander had been surrounded by stories that he was not merely the son of Philip II, but of Zeus himself, a belief encouraged by traditions surrounding his mother Olympias. After conquering Egypt in 332 BC, he decided to visit the famous Oracle of Amun at Siwa, believed to communicate the will of the gods. He risked his life crossing the desert to discover the truth about his origins. According to ancient accounts, Alexander was greeted by the priest as the son of Zeus-Ammon. He then entered the sanctuary and questioned the oracle privately. Although his exact questions remain unknown, he later claimed to have received the answers he desired. #AlexanderTheGreat #AncientHistory #MacedonianEmpire #OracleOfSiwa #HistoryEdit

he asked the priests if he had punished all people involved in his fathers murder and they answered: “if you mean phillip, then yes but if you mean your real father amun ra (equivalent of zeus) then he is immortal and cannot be killed”. Alexander of course really liked their answer.
