If they’re shut down, they’re probably not reading them. Don’t tell them you miss them — I disagree. There is nothing wrong with gently telling your child the truth: I miss you. Don’t tell your side of the story — that depends on their age, maturity, and whether they’re capable of hearing it. Don’t chase — absolutely. Chasing can reinforce the power-and-control dynamic. But don’t disappear either. Keep appropriate touch points. Let them know you love them. Keep the door cracked and the welcome mat out.
