@conscious.app: This is what it looks like when the CEO of a company actually stands up for Palestine. Mark Constantine co-founded Lush in 1995 and still runs it today. On a BBC podcast late last year, he was asked if his stance on Gaza would cost him customers, and he said if you're against it, you shouldn't come into his shop. Three months earlier, Lush shut every UK store, factory and its website for a full day, with signs in the windows that read Stop Starving Gaza. That day reportedly cost the company around three hundred thousand pounds. Staff were still paid, and Lush used it to push the UK government to stop selling arms to Israel. It also relaunched Watermelon Slice soap, its top fundraiser ever, with most proceeds funding medical care in Gaza, including prosthetics. Over half its 2025 sales were packaging-free, and it dropped child-labor-linked natural mica in 2018. It has paid UK staff a certified living wage since 2017, doesn't test on animals, and gives £250,000 a year toward replacing animal testing. North American workers have accused Lush of fighting their union efforts, among other issues. Still, next to most companies its size, it's one of the better options. Millions of people pay companies like Microsoft, Google and Airbnb every month. In 2025, a UN expert report named all three among companies it says profit from the genocide in Gaza.
