@calledtomarriage: Okay, okay, we lost against Athletico Madrid yesterday, but Manchester United will shape up soon. 😢 Here’s what’s important for now: I was born and raised in Ghana,  and Charlie knows it. He knows Ghana is where Daddy's family comes from. He knows it doesn't snow there like it does here. He knows Daddy and he are Manchester United fans. He knows players, teams, countries, and national flags. And he's five. I haven't sat him down and created a curriculum for any of this. He's simply been invited into my world. I tell him stories about growing up in Ghana. I tell him about meeting his mother in China and how God brought our family together. We watch football (soccer) together. We talk about countries and history. He asks questions and I simply answer them. And he's building his own understanding from those experiences. That's one of the things I want for my children: To know where they came from without being told who they have to become. My heritage is part of their story. Their mother's heritage is part of their story. The things we love, the places we've lived, the experiences God has given us, they're all part of what we're handing down. Eventually, they'll decide what they carry forward. For now, I'm just making sure they know the story. Bring your children into your world.
