@soocanadian: Canadian folk legend Joni Mitchell has become a U.S. citizen, announcing the news in an Instagram post featuring a photo of herself holding an American flag and a video of her citizenship swearing-in ceremony. “A journey that began 62 years ago,” the 82-year-old singer captioned the post. Born in Alberta, Mitchell first travelled to the United States in 1965 and later settled in California, where she continues to live. In 2024, before the U.S. presidential election, Mitchell reportedly said during a performance in Los Angeles that she wished she could vote, adding, “I’m a Canadian. I’m one of those lousy immigrants.” Mitchell recently returned to the Canadian spotlight at the Juno Awards, where she received a lifetime achievement award from Prime Minister Mark Carney.
