"Why does this keep happening," My friend The sheer amount of surgeons that refuse to wait for a count to be complete or throw stuff back into the patient During/After count is staggering, especially in places owned by said surgeons and hospitals that treat them like gods who can do no wrong

I was past due, went into the hospital in pain told them I was past my due date.The obgyn on staff told me I was being a baby and to go home and call my doctor in the morning, I walked out the er doors, got to my car and had my son right there in the parking lot. women's health care is a joke

A string from a renal stent was left in me for a year. I had an "antibiotic resistant" kidney infection. But really it was a piece of string (just like you would use to sew a button on a shirt) that had made its way into the kidney. Didn't show on scans. Doctors accusing me of not taking antibiotics or purposely causing an infection by bad hygiene. I finally convinced a different urologist to just go up there and look. He found it. I was awarded $5$$$$$ and my medical bills paid. If a string can cause that I couldn't imagine what a sponge or a needle could do

I know needles and sponges are a hassle to count, but wouldn’t surgery be the one thing in the world where it should be important to count your instruments, no matter how tedious? 😭

As an xray tech we do flat plate X-rays in the OR to make sure nothing is lost when count is over or under even on people who have died during a trauma. That’s crazy!

As an rn who circulates .. I truly cannot understand how this happened. Did the circulator not visualize the field? Did she not ask for an x ray when the counts were off?? Was there a second circulator not naming and counting off items dropped on the field?? I have so many questions
