@earthsignalofficial: Lake Powell, the second-largest reservoir in the United States, hit a new all-time record low in August 2026, falling below the previous record set in April 2023. As of late summer 2026, the lake sits at roughly 22% capacity, its lowest summer level ever recorded, following one of the driest winters on record across the Colorado River Basin, with Rocky Mountain snowpack at just 17% of normal. Lake Powell and Lake Mead together hold nearly 60% of the entire Colorado River Basin's stored water, and in July 2026, their combined level hadn't been this low since 1957, before Lake Powell even existed. The Bureau of Reclamation has cut water releases to the legal minimum just to keep the lake from dropping below "minimum power pool," the elevation at which Glen Canyon Dam would stop generating hydropower entirely for the millions of customers who depend on it. As water levels fall, long-submerged side canyons and rock formations are reemerging, flooded away for the first time since the dam was completed in 1963. #EarthSignal #LakePowell #ColoradoRiver #PatternsHidingInPlainSight 📍 Lake Powell, Utah / Arizona
