Mahito could do that... wait hear me out, I've always thought that Mahito could've developed an obsession around Nanami since he was the first to challenge him and he was really happy about that. Mahito is young and still experiencing so much for the first time, and we saw a level of fixation on his opponents like Itadori. But imagine he wants to fight Nanami at his full potential instead of cutting him down while he's gravely injured, so he fakes Nanami's death by transfiguring him to look like he died, but actually preserving the vital information to rebuild his body somewhere out of Itadori's sight, so he still thinks Nanami died and suffers that pain. Then when Nanami like, comes to back to life, he's still him, but because he basically got ripped apart and reformed when his body was never meant to do that, he's... off. Mahito thought he would be able to restore him almost perfectly, but he was wrong, and his subconscious stepped in and filled in certain gaps with inferences, except these inferences come from a curse living with a human form. So the small pieces of Nanami that got overwritten, and had influence over him as a whole. He's not a curse, but bc a curse is built around feeding off harm, Nanami basically becomes a vampire: compulsive killing, and stealing their blood for nutrients as the organic representation of feeding off cursed energy
