I’m a woman and i take public transportation every single day to work. You learn to be aware of your surroundings. But also love your community. Befriend your bus drivers!! Talk to the coaster conductors. They will look out for you, especially if you connect with them.

Not everyone in the comments proving you right. Of course there are nuances to everything, and women have a right to be fearful of men, but at the same time we need more people to use public transportation. A lot of people don't care to try and figure out what they need to do to make their city safer, one they just opt for "well I'm afraid so I give up". Ask around to see what your local systems are like, do research, learn to defend yourself if need be, and give it a shot.

I see what you mean, but as a woman that had to ride public transport out of need while I was in college working, I did not feel safe with people (esp men) staring at me or trying to talk to me. I really wish public transport would feel safer and that I hadn’t gone through multiple negative experiences to have made me dislike it and made me encourage other women to not take it

as a girl whos been taking the metro and bus system in la for majority of my life, being able to befriend the drivers and metro security workers has made my trips sm safer. ik the area and who i can go to for help and everyone is usually rly kind. also a lott of woman on the bus or metro too. it may be daunting but i hate that public transportation is perceived as unsafe.

I love taking public transit!!! lived car free for 23 years in Chicago (had to get a car due to a career change/driving to remote worksites). i still take the train or bus on the weekends instead of driving

I am a woman and take punlic transit, I agree there is a privilege with this thinking HOWEVER the only way public transit can improve is for people to actually use it and we can justify putting more money into it to make it safer.

Having a car reduced my commute by hours! Like yes I still support it but its unfair to not recognize some of us dont live in central areas of the city where there are trolleys and buses 😭
