totally different situations though, the wheeler storyline was about bringing awareness to mental health struggles in the medical field while ava went crazy bc she murdered someone to get her boyfriend back and then impulsively k'd herself bc he didn't appreciate it, also he canonically left Chicago bc of what she did so it did have an impact on the show...

Well I’d argue they are entirely different situations, at least to the characters. Wheelers suicide was thought out over a span of time and was done in a semi-non violent way. Ava killed herself after being confronted for murder in front of the man’s son that she killed.. so I can see why sympathy wasn’t the first thing they were reaching for
