@rap.minded: This is what a future No. 1 sounded like before the world heard it 🤯🔥 Released on June 16, 2017, “Bodak Yellow” was Cardi B’s first major-label single and the record that took her career to a completely different level. The song was produced by J. White Did It, while its title and cadence openly referenced Kodak Black’s “No Flockin’.” Cardi took that influence and made the record unmistakably her own. With no featured artist, the entire song depended on her delivery, personality and ability to make every line memorable. “Bodak Yellow” climbed throughout the summer before reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 that September. Cardi became the first solo female rapper to lead the chart since Lauryn Hill reached No. 1 with “Doo Wop (That Thing)” in 1998. The song remained at the top for three weeks. It later appeared on Cardi’s debut studio album, “Invasion of Privacy,” and earned Grammy nominations for Best Rap Song and Best Rap Performance. In 2021, “Bodak Yellow” received Diamond certification, making Cardi the first female rapper to achieve that milestone with a single. What was your first reaction to hearing “Bodak Yellow”? 🤔⁉️ #rap #hiphop #rapmusic #hiphopmusic #cardib
