@abc7chicago: A colony of sea lions was rousted by a California Highway Patrol car’s sirens on Sunday, October 11, after the animals took over a roadway near a marina in Monterey Bay. According to Evan Brodsky, the California Highway Patrol is frequently needed to remove the sea lions from roads in Moss Landing, as their presence prevents cars from getting by while also causing damage to the marina itself. “While they might look cute and cuddly, they are not,” Brodsky said. “Their closest relative on land is a grizzly bear, and they have a bite force five times stronger than a pit bull.” According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), California sea lions may be considered “nuisance animals” suitable for deterrence in the event of “damaging property, fishing gear, or catch.” Footage by Evan Brodsky shows a California Highway Patrol vehicle blaring its sirens to disperse the large gathering of sea lions from the road.
