I was physically bullied in 8th grade. (1984) My dad was tired of me whining about it - told me the next time I didn’t defend myself he was going whoop me. Next day this bully and I went at it. I was suspended for 3 days. Never seen my Dad so proud of standing up for myself. Also I Never had an issue with that person again.

What your child hears when you tell them to not hit back is, that they are supposed to just take the abuse and the parent is okay with that. I don't care if my child gets punishment too. It is not okay for another child to harm them. They will not be forced to just put up with abuse

Hmm, no, I don’t agree with this. I get that you’re trying to avoid consequences for the person who was initially hit, BUT the bully gets the message that they can do whatever they want with no consequences. We can see in society how this is working out already. So that’s a big no.

Yeah I'm so glad I didn't follow this advice growing up. The bully I had was never punished and ended up bringing a knife, just to see if he could get away with stabbing me. lucky that was the day I decided to defend myself, even if I got suspended
