It's not about the physicality in that sense. For men intercourse is not just the physical but the emotional as well. It's what tells us you want us, you accept us as we are, you trust us. If you open that to someone else all the implied emotions that come with it are immediately turned into their negative opposites. You don't want us as much as the other person, you wish we were them, you don't feel safe with us anymore. That's hard to fix because it implies so much.
