Prince Harry has revealed a painful secret about his struggle with grief, admitting that for years, he pretended to be fine while silently battling his emotions. In a new MasterClass conversation with neuroscientist Dr. Mary-Frances O'Connor, the 42-year-old Duke of Sussex opened up about losing his mother, Princess Diana, when he was just 12 years old. Harry explained that people often asked how he was coping, but he felt pressure to hide his pain. “For 15, 20 years,” he recalled, his answer was always, “I'm fine.” Behind that response, he said, was emotional numbness. Rather than process his grief, he threw himself into activities that kept him distracted, including joining the military in his early 20s. But after returning from his second tour in Afghanistan in 2013, those buried emotions began catching up with him. Harry revealed that he experienced panic attacks on his way to work. Even putting on a simple dress shirt could make him feel as though he was suffocating. Later, while staying in Canada with Meghan, he experienced a sudden drop in adrenaline and slipped into depression for about two weeks. He eventually realized that allowing himself to heal did not mean betraying his mother's memory. For years, he had felt guilty about the idea of being happy without her. Then came a powerful change in perspective: he realized that his mother would have wanted him to be happy. Today, he says carrying her memory gives meaning to the work he does. Sometimes, healing begins when we realize that moving forward doesn't mean leaving the people we love behind. \#PrinceHarry #PrincessDiana #MentalHealth #RoyalFamily #EmotionalStories
