@blwmealsapp: 5 first food trends I’m predicting as a Pediatric Dietitian 6 month old babies have increased iron needs but they also need other nutrients like fat, carbohydrates, protein, fiber and more! Here are some first foods we have on repeat in our house to help my little ones meet their nutrient needs. 1. Sardines are having a moment and for a good reason! Packed with omega-3’s for brain and nerve health, they also contain some iron and protein. It’s also a top 9 allergen (fish) and should be offered early and often when starting solids. 2. Avocados will always be a whole food staple as a first food. They’re calorie-dense and can be offered easily on a spoon or as a soft finger food. 3. Beef is a prime source of high absorbable iron (heme-iron) and can be offered so many ways! We love a tender meatball the size of their fist or bigger! (see the app for the simple meatball recipe!) 4. Egg is rich in choline for eye and nerve health + the yolk has some iron! Both the white and yolk can be offered at once to get an optimum protein and fat combo. 5. Broccoli - I recommend offering broccoli early in the beginning because it’s fiber-rich, nutrient-dense and a great way to expose them to bitter and savory vegetable flavors from the start. Follow along if you’re starting solids soon and use the free food library in our app to learn how to safely offer all these foods! #babyledfeeding #babyfoodideas #blw #blwmealsapp #babyfood
