🚨 Louis Saha on Lisandro Martínez calling out Manchester United’s hierarchy after the defeat to Atletico Madrid: “I’ve heard people saying Martinez has no right to question the people upstairs because he hasn’t been playing well himself. Nonsense. You can ask Martinez to defend better. I certainly would. He’s a Manchester United defender. Nobody gets a free pass after losing 2–0. But I won’t pretend that because a player has made mistakes, he is no longer allowed to recognise a problem. If that were the rule, very few people in football would ever be allowed to speak. We saw something similar with Ruben Amorim. He’d make a point about what was wrong at United, and some people would say, ‘Who does he think he is? He’s not Pep Guardiola.’ What’s Pep got to do with it? Do you have to win the Champions League before you’re allowed to recognise that something isn’t working? If a manager sees a problem, you judge whether he’s right, not whether he’s won enough trophies to earn permission to speak. And now they’re trying the same thing with Martinez. He asks why the manager keeps changing while other areas stay the same, and suddenly people are showing replays of goals he’s conceded. Fine. Criticise him for those mistakes. But when he asks a question about the people upstairs, don’t answer him with another replay. That’s not an answer. Because accountability can’t stop when you walk upstairs. If the technical director makes poor decisions, somebody should be asking questions. If recruitment isn’t good enough, somebody should be answering for it. If you keep appointing managers and then deciding they’re not the right men, at some point you have to look at the people making those appointments. That’s not an outrageous thing for a footballer to say. And I actually like the fact Martínez said it after a defeat. It would’ve been easy to give the usual interview. ‘We have to work harder. We have to stay together. We go again.’ We’ve heard it all before. And that’s toxic positivity. The supporters know the words by heart. They could probably conduct the interviews themselves at this stage. But Lisandro went a little further. He asked something the supporters have been asking for years. And of course there’ll be consequences. There always are when somebody says something the people above him don’t want to hear. Someone will tell him he should’ve kept it in the dressing room. Fine. But if the problems have been in that dressing room for years, maybe keeping everything in there hasn’t worked particularly well. And what bothers me most is the supporters. These people spend their money following Manchester United all over the country and across Europe. They turn up after terrible results. They defend the club when everybody else is laughing at it. And every time things fall apart, they’re asked to believe in another fresh start. How many fresh starts do you expect people to pay for? I played at United. I know what those supporters expect. They’re not asking for miracles. They want to know that the people making decisions care as much about winning as the people paying to watch. Martinez isn’t above criticism. None of those players are. They owe the club better performances, and they owe the supporters results. But he’s shown something important here. He understands that United’s problems didn’t begin with the current manager, and they won’t automatically disappear when the next one arrives. I hope he backs those words up on the pitch. That’s his responsibility. And I hope the people running Manchester United show the same courage when it’s their turn to answer questions. Because you can sack a manager. You can sell a player But if the only solution the club can offer these supporters is another new manager, then I think Lisandro has already made his point.” [ This is the source @ChinoUTD ]#manutd #mufc #manchesterunited #football #capcut
