@coachparkerofficial: A lot of young players lack identity and the ability to understand what they’re supposed to do when they get on the field. This is often a product of playing for 9000 different teams and programs… #youthsoccer #findyourcoach #SoccerCoach #footballcoach
Most times it's coaches that want them to play on all these other teams. My son gets asked by multiple teams to play during the summer and it's not beneficial.

To be honest, most coaches or clubs don’t even have a philosophy

I honestly think if you don’t have good enough players that could be a coaches problem but good talk coach

Pay to play is also a significant problem. Underprivileged kids aren’t getting the same opportunities as wealthy kids, regardless of talent level. Pay to play is a major problem and a massive hurdle that prevents top talent from rising

Totally agree, if you take youth and teaching the basics. Run the same schemes and formations in middle school and high school. There is your recipe to success.

I think the biggest problem is that we don’t have coaches with high soccer IQ. Very little teaching of skills, and corrections.

All these kids look and play the same - that's the problem. They are athletic, fast and physical. They know how to switch the ball - and that's about where it stops. Coaches are not teaching them to be students of the actual game - the 11v11 game - and as a result the function of their positions are not learned early enough. Ever single team and practice my sons have been in this last year of 11v11 soccer has been small-sided-games (SSG). No difference in coaching the thirds of the pitch, to different sequences like shot-short-long or receiving on the backfoot, etc. No, they do SSGs in a half-space, followed by a scrimmage against eachother - never against any other team 11v11. The physical side, the speed, the agility - that will catch up - but the reason we are not improving youth soccer is because we are not teaching them actual 11v11 soccer.

The problem with youth soccer is a lack of pick up games. Parents think if they aren’t paying for it, then it isn’t worth it. Young players get better playing without adults. Play on a team, get training for fundamentals, then play each other without adults. Play older players, play younger players, play adults without complete structure. America will never be the best until youth players start playing as playtime outside of their team structure. Pick up is where players use what they’ve learned structurally then practice without boundaries.
