@erwinschwols: #WWII #worldwar2 #nativetiktok #indigenous #codetalkers In honor of National Indigenous Day, this message goes out to all of the Native Americans, especially are war heroes who fought during WWII! As a man who is part Native American, I am proud of my ancestors who endured great struggles throughout their whole existence, and will always be grateful for that. The use of the Navajo language also proved greatly, as Navajo radio operators relayed messages and codes that the Japanese could not crack. On the 23rd of February, 1945, the famous flag raising made by United States Marines were made on top of Mount Suribachi, and among them was Ira Hayes, a Native American marine. Unfortunately, due to his suffering of PTSD, he would end up falling into alcoholism, and on January 24th, 1955, was found dead, with the cause of hypothermia, and alcohol posing after a night of cards and heavy drinking in Arizona. Lest we never forget!
