I’m glad you pointing this out. I have a friend in my area who does cleanings on the side and she has situations where she’s needing help and explain that to her clients and let them know/ask if they would be comfortable with letting someone different claim their home even though she knows me and knows how I clean. Her clients weren’t comfortable with that which is understandable because they’re used to her cleaning their homes, and I’ve seen that a lot of times with cleaners looking to still help their clients even when they’re not available by introducing client to someone that they know and trust will do a good job.

From my understanding - there is no risk to the seller (because they don't want those clients anymore right?) You cant completely sell a client list and then continue to skim anything off the top of those cleans later... But it is STUPID to BUY a client list. You'll lose - at best - half of that list immediately. Even buying an entire cleaning business - the client list, name, website, social pages, email, domain, associated Google reviews etc is STILL a stupid risk - because many of the regular clientele won't like the new workers personally or how they do things differently. And yes, you would have to ask the clients because they have not made an agreement with any other business but yours. people who sell client lists without asking / informing the clients and having those clients sign a new service agreement with the new buyer first are nothing but scammers. pretty sure it's illegal.
