Also keep in mind I’ve found that many people look at God through the lens of the relationship with Their parents. So if their parents operated that way sometimes it’s hard to accept his love and grace even if their pastor says so. I see this as a common issue. Even if they see it in scripture, it’s hard to unlearn that way of thinking.

I lowkey agree with you but I think you are kinda beating up on pastors. You are right the church is vastly undereducated on context and historical facts of the text so alot of sermons are taken outta context.

While I agree that all biblical stories are not meant to be normative, I would not be upset with a pastor framing the Moses example, for instance, as there are some actions we can commit whose consequences do disqualify us from certain particular aims, goals, dreams, etc. But the good news being, there is still life to live, redemption opportunities, goals to attain, all is not lost, etc.
