@alejandraspooks: Have you ever been told to call a baby's name before leaving a cemetery so their soul doesn't stay behind? 👻 Exploring this Mexican superstition, Latino folklore, and Indigenous beliefs surrounding spirits, death, and the afterlife. #MexicanFolklore #LatinoSuperstitions #mexicantraditions #LatinoCulture #SpookyHistory
My mom said something like this but it’s at a beach or lake, you also have to say bye to the water and turn around and not look back at it.

Also when you take them to a river or a lake you gotta do the same. My niece as a baby was taken for a walk in the forest afternoon/night and that same night she was crying, fuzzy and getting sick until the next day. My husband told his sister to go back to the same place and call her name screaming over and over as she left that next night our niece was back to normal like nothing ever happened. 😭😱

My dad told me to do this with large bodies of water since they would like to take the babies soul too.

We do this when our babies and little kids fall asleep in the woods, like a day at the lake.

My mother told me that they would do this so the child’s soul wouldn’t stay to play with duendes, Apparently the kids get pretty sick and you’d have to go back and call for them until the souls come back. she’d have me do it when I was watching after my siblings and we were coming home from the river or lake.

When I was 6 I stayed with my maternal grandma when my paternal grandma died. Years later, my mom explained that it was because of this reason.

We did it near a water source too. My town in Mexico was surrounded by lakes and rivers and hot springs, whenever we were leaving the area we would say “vente ——— no te quedes”
