so it’s rare for someone to get all the way through the order for the 3rd time… so are those stats including when a pitcher faces 1-3/4 and then gets pulled? Obviously the stats would be higher if that’s the case?

I’d like to see the correlation between fastball reliance and differential on the time through the order. I’m willing to bet guys who mix their pitches more and maintain consistent fastball velocity (regardless of top speed) fare better

It really depends on how many pitches they’ve thrown cause cause can be pitching a gem and discombobulated by the third time. Look at Snell in today’s game 1 first pitch ER. Then 9+ K’s he was on cruise control till the 7th inning (3rd time through the order)

its definitely an obvious trend and should be acted on, but its not a rule. some guys like fried do better or at least very similar by the 3rd time thru the order

I believe it comes down to knowing how to “pitch”. Working the corners and knowing how to pitch to a hitters weakness. And brush back pitches. “Watch out for in your ear”

3rd time through stats are not reliable because better pitchers face the lineup a 3rd time far more often. You have to compare a specific group of pitchers and no just a league wide stat

The issue with the stats is every pitcher is guaranteed at least some “first time through” stats, but the third time through is a smaller sample size, id wager a guess Cam faced a lot more third times guys than Max.

These guys throw harder and can’t go as long, it’s literally the only reason the innings are going down. It’s just easier to say “ahh it was his third time through” then every single time saying that they have to protect these guys arms
