You have taught me soooo much. I agree with everything you have said. I wish I had you to learn from 70 years ago. Up till a few years ago I believed in the Christian tenant (even though I am not a Christian now, I was in my youth), that reverence belongs to god and forgive someone who treated me disrespectfully because they have had a change in heart. I let EVERYONE walk all over me, and would just walk away. Because of that , an ever growing snowball of false accusations has been accumulating, and now the gossip has a life of its own, and I am not able to fight it. I have lost all my friends. Maybe 4 people on the planet still like me, and 6,000 people absolutely hate me for all the horrible things I have never done. It has gotten so bad the police have diagnosed me as “a dangerous and sick child”. They have labeled me as mentally unwell and have a lifetime of evil deeds. None of it is true. It is all based on me being a good and kind and forgiving person. I now understand how the German nation back in the 1930’s and 40’s were convinced that millions of Jewish people were evil. It is based off Bonhoeffer theory of stupidity. And you just explained to me how the accusations towards me got stated and proliferated and entrenched. I forgave everyone.

I would respectfully disagree. Sometimes you make choices and realize later you regret it or feel bad about it. Then the apology is just as valid as it was for a mistake. Saying apologies are only for mistakes leaves no room for people to personally grow.
