She Empowerment League Calls for End to Child Marriage Through “Never Before 18” Dialogue The @SEL-Salone, with support from Save the Children, has held an intergenerational dialogue in Freetown to advocate for an end to child marriage and promote girls’ rights. The October 13 event, hosted at New Brookfields Hotel, was held under the theme “Never Before 18: End Child Marriage and Invest in Girls’ Rights” as part of activities marking the International Day of the Girl Child. Melrose Alice Kamara, an ambassador from Annie Walsh Memorial School, said early marriage can prevent girls from achieving their dreams and aspirations. She encouraged fellow students to reject early marriage, prioritise education and pursue opportunities that will help them build a better future. Esther Elliot Nyuma, Advocacy, Campaign, Communication and Media Director at Save the Children Sierra Leone, emphasised the importance of investing in girl-led initiatives and creating platforms where girls can express their views and influence decisions affecting their lives. The dialogue brought young people and community stakeholders together to discuss girls’ protection, education and the need to safeguard their rights. 🎙️ @Julee dive 🎙️ @phebeswill #NeverBefore18 #EndChildMarriage #SheEmpowermentLeague #SaveTheChildren #GirlsRights - @dafmediasl
