@cadyebs: It sounds silly but it’s like teaching anything else — communicate, set the standard (aka live the actions yourself), let them be creative in their own ways & appreciate them trying. If they don’t even try, that’s a different story 🤧
The effort you put into making your friends and family feel special about the big things in their lives should be studied because it’s phenomenal!

Agree with this so much. Everyone says “you trained him well” but it’s really just me communicating things with him and him caring enough to listen and act on it.

My dad had that instinct, but I know that’s not typical.

I do understand teaching someone how to love you, but I also feel that when you’re in a rship there should be a natural inclination to want to show up for that person bc you care about them. If you have to communicate even small things, then idk. Especially if both people were raised differently. I think it’ll be a tough uphill battle if for example, you get a promotion at work or something good happens and they’re like “Cool, great job” and you’re used to more of a celebration in terms of acts or words of affirmation.

I do agree with you on the communication part! However, I think this has a lot less to do with biology and “natural instincts”. Women are often socialized from a young age to be attentive to others’ emotional needs and put effort into relationships, which translates into remembering birthdays, celebrating others, giving cards, etc., whereas men aren’t always taught or expected to do those same things. These are learned behaviors which is why men (who care about you) will start doing them when you communicate your needs and expectations as you mentioned 😊 buttt there is nothing inherently biological holding them back beforehand, women just tend to learn it younger lol!

I have this conversation with women do often! They always tell me how great of a husband I have—— which is so true! But you teach people how to treat you & what you’ll accept and what you won’t. They’re just boys and usually they’re not taught from the femm people in their lives

This on so many levels! I’m the oldest of 10 of the most dysfunctional family. My husband on the other hand functional family with only 1 other sibling but very non communicative family. Buttt he makes sure he listens to the smallest of details, and makes sure I’m always the highest celebrated when he knows not everyone will show up. . May I find him in every lifetime and all the ways he shows up to love me everyday ESPECIALLY AS A SPECIAL NEEDS MOM OF MULTIPLE SPECIAL NEEDS CHILDREN 🙏🏻💙🧩

Definitely a guy thing but also, how they grew up too. Like my man is Hispanic & grew up in a very strict household with no emotion, no saying I love you, no crying, toughen up, no sharing feelings, no expression how u feel etc, so unfortunately that is our biggest struggle. Because I’m constantly trying to break him from these ways he grew up so he can feel safe to open up or express his feelings but it’s harrddd
