@news.hunter.fast: Jim Nantz Breaks Silence on Tony Romo’s CBS Exit: “We’ll Be Friends Forever. Nothing Changes.” Jim Nantz is speaking out about the end of his partnership with Tony Romo. CBS confirmed to PEOPLE that it “mutually agreed to part ways” with Romo, 46, on Oct. 2. Months earlier, Romo was put on indefinite leave after his July 23 arrest in Milwaukee on suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated. Nantz, 67, spoke on the Traina Thoughts podcast, published Wednesday. He said he had “no role” in the network’s decision. “We started in 2017, we did nine years together. We did three Super Bowls,” he said. He added that they shared a “ton of laughs.” He said he learned of the arrest while at a golf event in Minnesota. When CBS announced the exit, he was in Las Vegas for the Raiders-Chiefs game. His first thought, he said, was to check on Romo as a friend. “It’s a forever relationship,” Nantz said. “We’ll be friends forever. Nothing changes.” Romo said in a statement that he would take a break to “focus on my health and my family before moving on to my next opportunity.” Nantz said he believes Romo “unquestionably” will work again. He called him “a star” and “a bigger-than-life personality.” But he said he does not know where Romo’s head is on his future, so he would not speculate.
