@borntoserve07: Ever leave a shift more tired from the people than the patients? Not everything deserves your response. Your peace is part of your job. You can love the work and still hate the room. What if the hardest part of your shift isn’t the work… but the environment you have to do the work in? Sometimes you can love caregiving, love the residents, and still walk into a workplace that drains you before the shift is even over. A toxic environment can make you feel like you constantly have to explain yourself, defend yourself, respond to every comment, or prove that you belong. But somewhere along the way, I learned something: Everything does not deserve my response. I can document what matters. I can do my job well. I can refuse to compete with pettiness. And most importantly, I can stop allowing somebody else’s behavior to decide what kind of day I’m going to have. After 17 years in caregiving, one boundary became very important to me: When the shift ends, the shift needs to end. I don’t want to carry the argument into my car, replay it while I’m driving home, take it into my house, and then let it climb into bed with me. The workplace may not change today. But I can change what I allow to leave that parking lot with me. Caregivers, nurses, CNAs—what is ONE thing you’ve learned not to carry home from work anymore?💜👇
