BEND, OREGON, USA 🇺🇸 — A father of two students is being identified as the community member who intervened during a deadly shøøting at Silver Rail Elementary School. 36-year-old carpenter Kaylub Giamanco was driving home after lunch when he reportedly heard gunfire and saw an armed attacker entering the school attended by his two young daughters. His brother, Kyle Giamanco, said that Kaylub had a concealed-we@pon permit and “and decided to go in after” the attacker. Police said the incident began around 12:59 p.m. on October 15, 2026. Officers arrived approximately three minutes after the first emergency call. The suspect had been stopped before police reached the scene. Authorities reported that four people died: three children aged 5, 8 and 11, and a teacher. Another 7-year-old child and a second teacher were critically injured in initial reports. Another witness, Justin Penfield, said a man told him that his pickup truck had been targeted before the attacker entered the school. Penfield described seeing “seven or eight gunshot holes in his truck.” Parents also described the fear and confusion as families tried to learn whether their children were safe. One student texted a parent: “Mom there was a school shooting we’re ok tho,” Another parent, Jenn Johnston, described the moment she reunited with her son: “My son came running to me in tears,” she said.
