First, book your ferry tickets for @catalinaexpress in advance to secure your preferred arrival and departure times. It’s crucial to do this ahead of time! If you’re coming from San Diego, Dana Point is the closest port, but there are also options from Long Beach and San Pedro. Arrive an hour early, and take motion sickness meds if needed. The ride from Dana Point to Avalon takes about 1.5 hours, with snacks and drinks available onboard. For accommodations, we loved @theavalonhotel for it’s spacious rooms, ocean views, friendly staff, and a cozy patio you can enjoy a complimentary breakfast on. The rooftop sunset views were also a highlight. Some other favorites include @catalina_hotel_metropole, and we’re dying to check out the renovated Pavilion Hotel. As far as activities go, there’s truly something for everyone! You can rent a golf cart from @catalinaislandgolfcart, play mini golf, go horseback riding, explore hiking trails, lounge on the beach, or tour the Catalina Island Casino + much more! To note, the Descanso beach club is closed during the off-season. Foodies will find plenty to enjoy too. For lunch, try @bluewatergrill for seafood with ocean views, then grab a beer flight at the new Flx Biergarten. For dinner, head to @lobstertrapinsta for casual seafood and good vibes, or Avalon Grille for cocktails and indulgent dishes like Lobster Mac & Cheese.
