I’m no doctor. I’d love to know if brain chemistry could be examined after a suicide. No clue if that’s a stupid statement but if we can find the common scientific variable, I think that would shed a lot of light.

Long term neuroinflammation. We have questioned if Alex was struggling with this from repeated strep throat as a child and teen. Could this be the missing link? Covid can also cause long term neuroinflammation resulting in mood and behavioral changes.

I’m so incredibly sorry for the loss of your son Ty. I’m grateful that my oldest son reached out last fall when he wanted to end his life. I am SO thankful everyday that we were fortunate enough to not be where you are today. I know that on any given day my son could be at a category 5! Thank you for what you are doing!! Mental Health in our teens and young adults is truly at an epidemic level! Prayers for healing for you all and may God bless your foundation to save lives!!

I think if your in category 4 an 5, your hiding your feelings so others won’t find out. It’s why telling someone or revealing your feelings doesn’t work. They won’t let people in by that point

Hurricane metaphor is spot on. Somewhere around 3.5 is where I think we have to start normalizing the conversation and being able to say without stigma or shame are you thinking of suicide ? Not candy coating it and saying 'are you thinking of hurting yourself'...The word suicide is so taboo and I would love to also start there so people like my brother and your son who show no signs know it's okay to say these words outloud before acting on them.

I'm so sorry. I believe covid was the beginning of my sons depression as well. It took a mental toll on our entire society that still lingers today. As far as suicide goes, I believe it boils down to the loss of hope. Hope that things can get better. It seems our society and social media is mostly made up of doom and gloom and it's easy to get lost in it. Obviously it's complicated but I think hope plays a big roll.
