Agreed! Political literacy is destroying the country, families, friends, and people in general. People don't understand United States civics, we need to get back to teaching basics civics and be more tolerant of others opinions.

You make a good point. But I believe the current administration is one of such destructive, gleeful cruelty that people are moving politically together, in many cases based on empathy alone. Yes, we have far to go, but I will happily accept this as a start toward a more thoughtful society. Thanks as always for something worth thinking about.

Bravo Robert! This clear dissertation identifies the root cause for so many thoughts rolling around my brain about how to determine which candidates best represent my positions on issues I see as critical to moving our country forward from the years long staganation in Congress, partisanship of SCOTUS & destruction of our country's economy, social safety net and reputation as an honest broker in the world caused by Trump's terrible policies. No one party or person can solve it all. How do we elect those who can independent of our corrupt political party system? We need a new way of choosing those who represent us in all levels of government - local, state and federal. How do we build the coalitions we need to move away from the hyperpartison mostly 2 party system we currently have to a system focused on electing those best equipped to solve the actual problems we are facing from an economic, humanitarian, political and environmental / ecological perspective? Defiance til death!

Your challenge is hard because it requires us to think for ourselves and many people, myself included, are used to instant gratification and look for the easy way out. I have found it nearly impossible to find a party/ candidate that I agree with everything he/she stands for. And yet we are forced to choose because we are mostly limited to a 2-party system. I often vote on the premise of whom I belive will do the least damage. But, as you point out, that requires some digging. And in this era of news snippets and social media, it can be daunting. Defiance till Death.

This is why I've always eschewed political parties yet I still understand their purpose. I fear it'll only get worse in this age of social media and now the acceleration of AI. It's unimaginable what teachers are up against. Who knows how long it will take, if ever, for our country (and the world) to heal from the ravages of maga-think. I know now it won't be in my lifetime. In the meantime I just gotta love as much as I can 💙

These days far TOO many people can't even begin to think on their own... TOO MANY deaf, dumb and blind people who don't know what to ask or who to ask, they ALL LOOK for an easy answer to questions they don't ever ask..

Part of the problem is that this is really difficult work. People don’t even know how to form useful questions. There is so much useless verbiage in the air. And even when one begins to find people with whom one could have significant conversations, generally these are not people who are politicians. I’ll stop now because I am talking myself into despair.
