@thehomeruler: Why is there a war in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC)? Who are M23, and what do Rwanda and Uganda have to do with the conflict? 🇨🇩 To understand what is happening in eastern Congo today, we need to go back decades — to Mobutu Sese Seko, Laurent-Désiré Kabila, the First and Second Congo Wars, the 1994 Rwandan genocide, and the history of Congolese communities of Rwandan origin. Who are the Banyamulenge? Why has citizenship and ethnic identity been such a contentious issue in eastern Congo? What happened when President Juvénal Habyarimana’s plane was shot down in 1994? How did Rwanda and Uganda help bring Laurent Kabila to power, and why did Kabila later turn against his former allies? And most importantly: why is M23 fighting the Congolese government, what role is Rwanda accused of playing, and why has peace remained so difficult to achieve? This is a complicated history involving armed groups, regional security, political power, ethnic tensions, foreign intervention and Congo’s enormous mineral wealth. No single explanation tells the whole story. In this video, I break down the historical background in simple terms to help explain how the past connects to the crisis unfolding in eastern DRC today. Watch, learn, and join the discussion respectfully. Understanding Congo requires looking beyond headlines and examining the history. #Congo #DRC #M23 #Rwanda #AfricanHistory

Wrong example. White South Africans are South Africans with European decent. Maybe the better example is Batswana people of Botswana and South Africa, Basotho people of Lesotho, and Swati people of South Africa and Eswatini

What confuses me is that Hutu and Tutsi are actually one tribe and not two different tribes.

Was there Congo and Rwanda before colonization and were these people not living there before the colonizers drew the line creating these countries.

No,When Belgium took over the German territories of Hima Rwanda Kingdom,Tanganyika,Zanzibar after their defeat in the WWI,Belgium broke the kingdom by reducing it taking the western kingdom into Congo and renamed it Eastern Congo/Great Lakes Region-furthermore created a province to be Burundi country.Belgium are responsible for this messy and unending conflicts.Furthermore,Mobutu in 1971 he introduced a barbaric law in the Congolese Parliament denationazing Tutsi or Hima or Nyamulenge People.Late President Mobutu added more conflicts.Solutions-either accept Tutsis,Hima as Congolese or handover the entire Eastern Congo back to Rwanda.

Will also be good to include in the narrative that Congo, Rwanda and Burundi where governed by Belgium. This can also explain migration.

When colonialists created their own arbitrary boundaries the kingdom of Rwanda was split in two, with part of it, with its people, the Banyamulenge Tutsis, being made part of what is today the DRC.

They have been there for a very long time, if central government in the west doesn't want to accommodate and govern them maybe they should cede that land to the Banyamulenge.
