@isogorgeouz32: Halle Berry made history in 2oo2 as the 1st Black Woman to win a Oscar for Best Actress, for Monster’s Ball! Angela Bassett says she passed on that part! In a Newsweek interview, that summer she explained; “It’s about character, darling! I wasn’t going to be a prostitute on film! I couldn’t do that because it’s such an stereotype about black women & sexuality! “ Berry’s character, Leticia, was actually a waitress , but Bassett objected to the film’s graphic love scenes! The comments sparked a firestorm! Bassett insisted she wasn’t criticizing Berry, I can’t and don’t begrudge Halle her success” & that she had told Berry she could win! The President of LionsGate , the studio behind the film, publicly disputed that Bassett was ever offered the role! Vanessa Williams also passed on it! Would you have taken the role❓ #actors #fyp #movie #angelabassett #bestactress
