@nyunfilter: This is an educational video about the rise and fall of Rochester, New York. In the early 1900s, Rochester was one of the most prosperous cities in America. Kodak, Xerox, and Bausch and Lomb were founded here. The city had more patents per capita than any other. Wealthy families like the Eastmans built libraries, museums, and schools for the public. Kodak employed sixty thousand people in Rochester at its peak in 1982. It paid a quarter of all salaries in the metropolitan area. Then Kodak collapsed. It missed digital photography. Lost ground to competitors. The layoffs started in the 1980s and never stopped. By 1997, twenty-six thousand Kodak jobs had vanished. The city's population dropped from three hundred thirty thousand to two hundred ten thousand. Rochester never recovered. This is a factual historical presentation. 📍 Rochester, New York #RochesterNY #Kodak #GoldenAge #NewYorkHistory #UrbanHistory

In 1975, Kodak invented the very tech that would eventually destroy the company...the digital camera.

Rochester has so much potential! I believe its location near some of the largest bodies of fresh water, good education, low cost of living, and several other factors make it a very desirable city for the future. I wish wealthy companies, people still invested in quality of life instead of pure greed.

Rochester built the world. Then the world moved on. Kodak collapsed. The factories closed. The city never recovered. This is the story of the golden age of Rochester NY.😢
