Yall unfortunately it’s pretty simple why it keeps happening. These players are playing multiple games a day as KIDS and once you show you’re good enough, that doesn’t slow down. The wear and tear on these players bodies is drastically different than back then. On top of that, the game has sped up, pace of play and style of play means more running up and down, more lateral movement, and with a perimeter era you’re doing a lot more sudden movements. The human body can only evolve so fast, not really fast at all really, but basketball has evolved at an insane rate as of recent, you pair that with the mileage on these players bodies and unfortunately it’s bound to happen.

everybody saying the shoes is just wrong, ankle injuries happen much more now because the game is played differently. players are asked to play at higher tempos and to make hard quick cuts, accelerate and decelerate, make stepbacks. its alot more common nowadays because there is alot more opportunity for it with how the games played
