For those saying she wasn’t washing bottles properly - serratia marcescens thrives in warm, moist areas. It grows in bathrooms, hot tubs, places of the sort. It would make sense that a sterilizer could grow it, with properly washed bottles or not.

Why do we have to do this? Mom of 6, and I just wash the bottles in hot soapy water. Does hot water and soap not work anymore?

Thank you for reinforcing my decision to skip the sterilizer and go with boiling them. 🫶🏼 Also, thank you for bringing awareness to this, there’s just so many new gadgets now that everyone says you need and it gets overwhelming.

to parents who don’t wanna spend $300 on a single appliance: I have the GROWNSY baby bottle countertop sterilizer and it has a double dry cycle (and it’s $46 on Amazon rn) being a mom is hard enough without shitting on each other! Let’s help each other out instead.

She wasn’t washing her bottles, just dropping them in the sterilizer. Also, not using the drying cycle and leaving stagnant water. Don’t worry, if you clean properly this won’t happen.

Best thing I learned. Wash by hand, use dryer/sterilizer machine and then dry setting again to ensure all moisture is gone

If your baby is healthy, full term and older than 2 months, sterilizing isnt necessary. I breastfed so I have never sterilized their bottles even when I occasionally pumped for events. Just used hot water and soap, rinsed thoroughly with hot water. Air dry completely. I cant sterilized my boob every time baby latches on and once they are putting toys in their mouth and playing on the floor I dont see the point. Just clean everything the way you do your own dishes.
