Here’s something I’ve had to admit to myself. There have been times in my life when I wanted things to be different, but I wasn’t quite ready to do anything differently. Oh, I had my reasons! LOL. And some of them sounded pretty convincing, even to me. But I’m learning something. Sometimes the hardest person to hold accountable is the one looking back at us in the mirror. It’s easy to recognize what’s standing in our way when it’s something outside of us. But what about the promises we keep breaking to ourselves? The decisions we keep putting off? The things we know we need to change but keep finding reasons not to? And here’s the part that really makes me think. What if the excuses we’ve been making aren’t protecting us from failure? What if they’re protecting us from finding out what we’re actually capable of? Whew! Now that’s a question worth sitting with. I’m still figuring things out myself, one day at a time. But I don’t want to spend the rest of my life wondering what might have happened if I’d given myself a real chance.
