perfume is mostly vibes because it's so difficult to describe a smell without actually smelling it. you can't transfer a smell like you can other senses. perfume ads are just selling lifestyle. I appreciate your explanation, I learned a lot.

sometimes the way someone else describes a perfume will change my experience of it. someone on fragrantica said myrrh & tonka by jo malone smells just like dr. pepper & now that's all i get.

I think the simplified note breakdown is for making it easier to describe for sales associates. Which is understandable since most people didn't even know what notes were a few decades ago.

Also your skin chemistry changes the scent once it settles on you, if perfumes don’t smell the same on you don’t feel bad, birth control for women changes your chemistry so do with that what you will 🥰

My problem is I work with plants, I love gardening. I know what the flowers smell like intimately. Fragrances are so dissapointing to me. It is very difficult to imitate my favourite floral scents.
