🚨 ARRESTED FOR PREACHING THE GOSPEL — WAS THIS JUSTICE? On February 8, 2026, I was street preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ in Decatur, Alabama, when then-Decatur Police Officer Malachi Compton charged me with disorderly conduct — unreasonable noise. But what does Alabama law actually require to establish disorderly conduct? Under Alabama Code § 13A-11-7, the State must establish that a person acted with the intent to cause public inconvenience, annoyance, or alarm, OR recklessly created a risk of those consequences, and engaged in one of the prohibited acts. In my case, the allegation was unreasonable noise. I was preaching Scripture using amplified sound. The incident also raised questions about Decatur’s noise ordinances, sound-amplification permits, and the limits those rules place on public religious expression. ⚖️ HERE IS WHAT HAPPENED NEXT: My case was later dismissed upon payment of court costs, with $421 in costs and additional street-preaching conditions included in the dismissal agreement. Those conditions stated, among other things, that amplified preaching must not cause disruptions and that if officers notify me that the noise is disruptive, the activity must cease. That raises serious questions: ❓ Where is the line between unreasonable noise and constitutionally protected religious speech? ❓ Should an officer’s determination that preaching is disruptive be enough to require a preacher to stop? ❓ Do amplified-sound ordinances and permit requirements protect the public—or can they become barriers to exercising First Amendment rights? I was out preaching the Gospel. My case was dismissed, but the questions about free speech and religious liberty remain. 📢 Watch this video and decide for yourself: WAS THIS JUSTICE? I am calling on Decatur’s mayor, City Council, and city officials to review the city’s noise ordinances, amplification permit requirements, and enforcement practices to ensure that the First Amendment rights of street preachers and other members of the public are protected. ✝️ Preaching Christ. Calling people to repentance. Proclaiming reconciliation with God. #StreetPreaching #FirstAmendment #ReligiousLiberty #FreeSpeech #DecaturAlabama
