The Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) has imposed a S$1 million fine on Singtel for mobile service disruptions on Mar. 16, 18 and 19, 2026. The incidents had affected around 720,000 Singtel users. IMDA's investigations found that the Mar. 16 disruption resulted from Singtel's vendor failing to follow standard operating procedures. This caused a chiller system failure at a Singtel exchange, leading to mobile network equipment at the exchange overheating and shutting down. The disruptions on Mar. 18 and 19 occurred after 5G mobile traffic was redirected from the affected exchange to another Singtel exchange following the earlier disruption. IMDA concluded that the incidents were preventable, and not caused by a cyberattack. In determining the financial penalty, IMDA took into account the scale and impact of the disruptions, as well as Singtel's full cooperation during investigations, efforts to progressively restore its mobile services, and proactive goodwill rebates extended to affected customers.
