In my country we give up seats for the elderly , pregnant women , parents with tiny kids ,and injured ppl . If you're carrying a heavy bag a lot of ppl (who are sitting) will offer to hold your bag for you , or you can ask politely if they can hold it for you .

I work in a really busy shopping centre, no way I'm giving up my seat for someone who has had a nice day shopping whilst I've been on my feet for 8 hours. the elderly, pregnant or disabled sure but otherwise, nah sorry.

why give up the seat? offer to hold the bag. I'm pissed when ppl don't offer to hold the bag in their laps because I do that for everybody... especially students because I know they carrying a ridiculous amount of weight with their books. but I'm not in the u.s so maybe that cultural. but still, I'd offer to hold her bag.

I genuinely never expect anyone to give up their seats for me 😂 I always get up if I see an elder person or someone with a broken leg or something though.

Are there not shelves for the bags? I live in Korea and there's a shelf above the seats for bags. most don't use them but I do if I'm going a long way with bags.
