According to Okinawa Prefecture, US military bases were linked to 6,163 criminal cases between 1972 and 2022. Prime Minister Takaichi has vowed to strengthen Japan's military ties with the US as part of her unprecedented military buildup, marking the country's largest rearmament since World War II.
