Chrissy Bloom :
Prompt #1:
"You follow me now." I hadn't seen who said it. The lights were off. I refuse to sleep with some glare, like trying to watch a movie but someone in front of you is on their cell phone. I want to dream in peace, and to let the little light dance around me is like being able to see my hand in front of my face and know where the exit doors are.
Other than that, for whatever reason, the room was cold and damp. It was mid-summer, so the room's atmosphere didn't make sense as an explanation. "You follow me now." My head pounded with thoughts that refused to be written, "You follow me now," rattling around like groceries spilled in a trunk; something told me, "You follow me now," to sit up; something told me to look over, so I did. "You follow me now." She sat there. She, who has no name, said that she was taking mine. "You follow me now," said that I was now the placeholder. "You follow me now, " she said, saying that she was born to bathe in the sun, that I was nothing without her to have the light cast on. "You follow me now." I, who have always felt like a follower having actually been a leader I fought for my position. "You follow me now." I rubbed my red eyes, trying to clear whatever sleet had formed in my eyes during this un-sleeping night. "You follow me now." Trying to reach out around in this mostly dark room, trying to find my glass, trying to reach for my lamp's dimmer so I can be able to introduce light into this too. "You follow me now." But only then will I be able to see her, but I was not able nor willing to see someone face to face that I share their appearance, so I kept the light off. "You follow me now." Then I asked her which one God put first. She did not respond. So to her I said, "You follow me forever." And after rolling over, I went back to sleep.
